Your Brand Says Nothing to Gen Z? Here’s How to Get Their Attention

Publicado

Gen Z doesn’t hate your brand. They’re just… ignoring it. And that stings.

Especially after all the time, effort, branding and strategy you’ve poured into it. But if they’re not looking your way, there’s a reason: You’re not speaking their language.

It’s not about throwing in a “vibe check” or dancing to Olivia Rodrigo.
It’s about understanding what they value and how they communicate.

First of all, who is Gen Z?

Born between 1997 and 2012, they grew up online with social media, memes and an attention span that skips anything boring. They’re hyper-aware, visually-driven, emotionally intelligent… and they can smell fake from a mile away.

So if your brand sounds like a commercial from 2012, they’ve already scrolled past.

Why aren’t they paying attention?

Because you’re sounding too corporate.
Because you’re talking at them, not with them.
Because your content feels more like a press release than a conversation.
And because in your effort to sound “young,” you end up sounding forced.

Gen Z doesn’t want you to pretend to be one of them.
They want you to be yourself  but honest, intentional and aware.

So… how do you get their attention?

  1. Say something real
Talk about what you believe in, not just what you sell. What drives you? What causes matter to you? The brands Gen Z trusts are the ones that feel human.
  2. Be entertaining, not fake
They’re scrolling through a sea of memes and trends. You don’t need to be hilarious 24/7 — just be clear, quick, and emotionally relevant.
  3. Make space for community
Don’t try to dominate the conversation. Invite one. Gen Z respects brands that listen and give their audience a voice.
  4. TikTok, TikTok, TikTok
Yes, again. Because that’s where they are. Create content for TikTok, not repurposed ads. Be native, be real, be brief.
  5. Have real values (and live them)
This generation doesn’t buy products. They buy beliefs. If you say you care about sustainability, diversity or inclusion — prove it.

✨ WRU TIP:

Don’t underestimate them. Gen Z isn’t hard. They’re just done with brands trying too hard.

They’re sharp, aware and beautifully demanding. That’s not a challenge, it’s a huge opportunity.

At WRU, we don’t just get them, we’re a multigenerational team that works with them, creates alongside them, and thinks for them, while staying mindful of every other audience that matters too.

Because when you mix different voices, backgrounds and ways of seeing the world,
you can speak to everyone, without sounding like everyone. That’s the real flex.

Start by listening. Then speak. Then listen again.
